On 29 Jan 2016 around 6.33pm at Boon Lay Bus Interchange, I encounter a very unpleasant situation created by an unreasonable eldery SBS bus inspector, he is those staff that usher the passengers to board the bus at 243G/179 area.
The bus was packed and I decided not to board the bus and wait for the second one. I was carrying heavy shopping bag and furthermore I was sick for the past few days which I find it difficult to stand in the bus. I had no unpleasant encounter for the past few years whenever I stop at the first one when I decided to wait for the second bus. No passengers told me off, they will just walked past me if they want to board the bus.
Behind me was a Malay guy whom is plump, he stop too. This was when the rude bus inspector came up to the Malay guy and started scolding him for blocking other passengers. In fact there were ample space for other passengers to walk past him. This rude inspector was just simply targeting on plump people. The Malay guy was on his earphone and did not heard what the rude bus inspector was screaming about. This was when I became his 2nd target. He scolded me for being on my earphone and can't hear what he was screaming about and I was also blocking the way. Sadly to say that my music volume was low at level 7 and I had heard all his nonsense all this while, I choose to ignore him but was targeted as nobody was answering him. I took out my earphone and told him, I can hear what he was screaming about and it's passenger choice whether to board the bus. He simply turn a deaf ear. I can see clearly from his expression that he was a bit shocked when I told him I heard everything, and in order to cover his wrong he continue to scream. I told him to watch his behaviour but he choose to ignore my advise.
I turned to the Malay guy and asked him whether he heard what the bus inspector was screaming about. He told me he only managed to hear part of it and I explained everything to him. He was puzzled by this rude bus inspector as passengers had the right to choose whether to board the bus or not. I did not told him the rude bus inspector was actually targeting at his body size as I do not wish to hurt him. The rude bus inspector screamed till the next bus arrived.
Before I board the bus, I told him nicely the 2nd time to watch his behaviour, which I think I should remind him. No passengers was bullying him but he was the one abusing his rights and bully the passengers.
I had noticed him for the past few months since he started ushering at 243G/179 area. He will scold the bus captain, another assistant bus inspector helping him ushering and passengers if they do not listen to him or did not meet what he wanted. If bus captain do not stop at his preferred place, he will scold them. Bus had already stop, he insisted the bus captain to drive further up so that passengers will use the exit way to board the bus. He will also scold the passengers when they did not use the exit way to board the bus. Previously when Bus 182 was there, he will scold the foreigners for no reasons. Isn't he suppose to ensure the safety of the passengers instead of squeezing everyone till the door?
The previous bus inspector and those doing for only 1-2 days were much more better than him. I understand this is not a easy job but as what I mentioned earlier, no passengers was bullying him. He is the one who abuse his rights and bully the passengers and bus captain for no reasons.
We passengers are not there to receive this kind of treatment. Whenever he is not in good mood, he will sure swear and curse at everyone. Passengers will always ignore him as it's rushing hours and we only want a pleasant ride back home or to our destination.
I am very affected by this incident for the past few days. I had wrote complaint email to SBS and Ministry of Transport demanding an apology from him and the company. I doubt I will be given an satisfied answer from them. I had read quite a few articles online and newspapers, SBS will push the blame back to the passengers. Just down on my luck to meet this kind of rude staff.
